Colorado Springs Real Estate Information

Located near the heart of the state, almost in the center, Colorado Springs, Colorado, is the county seat and most populous city of El Paso County. It is the second largest city in the state, with a population estimated at more than 375,000, as of 2007. It lies about 60 miles south of the capital, Denver, and sits at more than 6,000 feet above sea level. The city receives an average of around 17 inches of rainfall annually and around 45 inches of snow. Colorado Springs is near the base of Pikes Peak, one of the most well-known parts of the Rocky Mountain, at the eastern edge of its southern portion.

The city is home to a wealth of trail and parks, in part because of its location next to the Rockies. There are several other attractions as well for families to enjoy, such as the Garden Of The Gods park, Seven Falls, Cave Of The Winds, Pikes Peak, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, the World Figure Skating Museum and Hall of Fame.

The city's economy revolves around the military, technology and tourism. Several contracting companies have offices here, such as Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Boeing and General Dynamics. There are several bases and military operations, for both the Army and Air Force: Fort Carson, Peterson Air Force Base, Schriever Air Force Base, the North American Aerospace Defense Command and Cheyenne Mountain Air Station, and the United States Air Force Academy. The city is also notable as the home of the United States Olympic Training Center and the headquarters of the United States Olympic Committee. Because of its headquarters, there are also U.S. national federations for several Olympic sports located here.

The Metro bus system operates a Front Range Express to connect Colorado Springs with Denver and other areas on weekdays. The city is also known as a cradle for evangelical Christian organizations, at one time home to national headquarters for more than 80 religious organizations. Schools in the city are split into nine districts, including one for charter schools and one for the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind. There are also at least half a dozen private schools and nearly a dozen colleges and universities. Two hospitals, Memorial Health System and Penrose-St. Francis Health Services, provide medical attention.
